James Dashner was born on November 26, 1972, in Austell Georgia (James Dashner). His dream job was movie making, but he decided to become an accountant(James Dashner & James Dashner hits it big with series). He went to college in Utah at Brigham Young University, where he graduated and received his masters in accounting (James Dashner). Starting off in his hometown of Austell he felt as if going to this university was a big step in his career. He spend about a decade of accounting with a bit of writing on the side before he finally decided to go into writing full time (James Dashner hits it big with series). Ever since he was young James really enjoyed reading any book he could get his hand on. When James was about 10 he started to write stories on his parent’s typewriter. This early writing made him fall in love with writing(About Dashner’s Life). James Dashner was inspired by many different things when he was writing The Maze Runner. One of the many things that inspired him was a book called Lord Of The Flies. While in an interview James said that "It's just the idea of all these boys trapped on an island, figuring out how to treat each other,"(James Dashner). This might be how he got his idea for the glade. He also said in an interview that "The idea goes way back to my childhood when I saw the Stephen King movie The Shining, he said. "At the end of that movie, there's a creepy scene where the main character's chasing his son through a garden maze. I was way too young to see that movie and it freaked me out, and since then I've always been a little scared of mazes. They creep me out and they fascinate me."(James Dashner). Ever since James watched this movie he had the idea for a book about a maze in his head, but it never came out until he started to write(James Dashner On Writing & Influences Of The Maze Runner!).
