Overall I enjoyed the book The Maze Runner by James Dashner. I really enjoyed Dashner’s writing style, he made it feel like I was in a similar position. During one of the fast-paced parts of the book, while the main character Thomas was being chased by a Griever, Dashner’s writing made me read faster and faster to a point where I had to re-read many parts because I was trying to read as fast as Thomas was running. Like any other book, there were a few parts that I would have changed. One of the parts that I wish was different was when James decided to kill off Chuck. I think that James could have easily avoided this from happening. Another part of the book that I wish James would have changed was when Thomas, Chuck, and Teresa were in the room where the grievers come from. Teresa was typing the code to shut down the grievers and they couldn't figure out why it wasn't working. It finally worked when Chuck pressed a button on the ground. I thought that having that was more annoying than suspenseful. Another part that I wish that James would have changed the way that Thomas was introduced into the glad. He was brought up in a cage with little memory. While reading this I learned from a few incidents that sometimes in order to keep order, sometimes a group must use chaos. This can be seen when the Gladers threw people out into the maze for breaking rules. I also learned while reading this that you might not be able to keep all of your promises no matter how hard you try. This can be seen when Thomas promises Chuck many different times that he will bring Chuck to his parents, but near the end of the book Chuck sacrifices himself to safe Thomas and dies as a consequence. I think overall this book tries to show that society has become content with its problems and that society is just living, while some need to break free and force the world to change just as Thomas did. Overall I really enjoyed this book despite the few things that I wish I could have changed in the book. I would even say that it is one of my favorite books of all time. I would definitely recommend this book series to any of my friends.
